Life in Milan

by Gowrishankar Palanisamy (Msc student at Polimi) [2015-05-10]

Milan is one of the most expensive cities in Europe. Being a student, you have to spend your money very wisely. There are some benefits from the governments in terms of scholarship and public travel.

For DSU scholarship http://www.polimi.it/en/students/financial-aid/scholarships/diritto-allo-studio-dsu/

Student travel card costs 15 euros and it can be recharged with 200 euros for one year or 22 euros for one month. It is valid for all the metro trains and buses in Milan city.

If you are comfortable in staying with your friends, you can search for an apartment from the notice boards in and around the university campus. You can get a decent apartment for about 800 euros per month and it can accommodate 4 people (you have to pay extra for gas, electricity and wifi).

University rooms cost around 350 to 400 euros. For food, it won’t exceed 100 euros. There are plenty of Bangladeshi and Indian stores available where you can get most of our Indian groceries.

Send a mail with your complete details to indianassociationofmilan@gmail.com .You will get frequent mails about the upcoming events conducted by Indian association of northern Italy.

The initial expense for residence permit and insurance will be around 300 euros. You can find the procedures for all the formal works here. http://www.polinternational.polimi.it/life/

If you are party guys, get enrolled in ESN (Erasmus student Network) group in your university and get card for 5 euros. You have many free entries for the Pubs in weekends/weekdays.

Attending welcome event conducted by Polimi is recommended. You will get all the necessary information in the event.
