1. What is the cost of living in Italy for students?
Prices may vary from place to place. Generally, one could look forward to spend between 250 to 700 depending on the location.
Rent for Accommodation: Shared room from 120 to 400, Non-Shared (Single room/1BHK Apartment) from 200 to 700.
When you plan your stay, you will need to leave a security deposit for the apartment usually 2-3 months rent.
Additional Expenses: Utilities - 40 to €80 (Gas, Electricity, Water and Garbage), Internet - €20 (Shared by roomates/faltmates)
Entertainment: Cinema tickets range from €5 to €10. Theatre tickets depend on the show, theatre and seats starts from €15 to €60. Discos usually cost from €5 to €30, first drink is usually included in the price.
Considering accomodation, food, telephone, transportation and leisure costs, you should consider a monthly budget differs based on the following cities.
Rome  - €600 to €900
Turin    - €450 to €700
Milan    - €600 to €1100
Florence - 500 to €1000
Venice   - €500 to €700

2. How many hours/week of work allowed on a student visa?
The Italian laws permit a student to work hours a day and a maximum of 20 hours a week. Generally Italian Companies look to hire you as an Intern and pay would be ranges from €300 to €900.

3. What about the part time job during studies?
It is not that you cannot find one, but probability is very less. It is hard to get a job without having a skill to speak Italian.

4. How long can I saty in Italy after my graduation?
Students from PhD and Master’s (120 credits) may apply for a temporary stay permit (Permesso di Attesa Occupazione) which lasts for a period of 12 months and allows students to live in Italy after their graduation while searching for a job. Other students can stay only untl their stay period expires. In case you do not find a new job before your permesso expiration date, you must leave the country.

5. Can I accept a work contract in Italy while I am a student?
Yes, you can. However, if you want to work before you graduate, by law you can only accept part-time contracts, which means you may work up until 20 hours maximum weekly and 1040 hours yearly. In case you wish to work full time before graduation, you munst convert your stay permit from study to work, but only within the annual quotas established by law.

6. Can I accept an Internship in Italy or aborad while I am a student?
Yes yo cam, but only as long as your study permit is valid.

7. How long can an internship period last?
Internship period lasts from one month to 12 months.

8. What to do when a foreign citizen resident in Italy is abroad when his/her resident permit is stloen or lost?
In this case, the holder of the resdence permit must report to the police in the country in which he/she is located. With the complaint sheet, he/she have to go to the Italian embassy or Italian consulate in that country to request a re-entry visa to return to Italy to request a duplicate of the residence permit.

9. What about Post-Study Work VISA after Graduation?
If you manage to secure a JOB before or after graduation, you have the opportunity to convert your visa from Student to Work. (Please refer to another post regarding the details).

11. How to reuest a duplicate residence permit?
There are three main reasons for requesting a duplciate of the residence permit (permesso di soggiorno):
1. Damage: If the permesso is damaged due to external factor. External factor means the card is break ot getting scratch which makes it unreadable.
2. Theft: When the permesso is stolen and no longer exists, the theft must be reported as soon as possible to the nearest Police Station or Carabinieri. You can do this by going in person to the Station or by calling 112 (Police) or 113 (Carabinieri).
3. Loss: When the permesso is lost, you must have to make a complaint in the Police station or Carabinieri.
Documents required obtaining a duplicate permesso di soggiorno:
Application completed and signed by the interested party (Application – Form 1, you can get this from post office).
Photocopy of the entire passport or other equivalent document.
Photocopy of the report of the theft or loss presented at the Polcie station or Carabinieri.

    I think, it is required to show some basic accommodation for at-least a week or month, so that you will not be in trouble when u reach here..

    1. Yes, Post Graduation Visa can be extended up to 1 year in Italy as of 204-2015 rules and regulations.

  5. And I just want to add here that Declaration of value is not required for the visa if the university doesn't need it... Check with your university and ask them to send an email to the visa consulate in India explaining the university doesn't require a declaration of value for admission.. I didnt have to get a declaration of value for my PhD.. And I have to say VERY INFORMATIVE BLOG.. good work mate.. :)

Hii,my name is anoop..i am an indian,working and residing in saudi arabia.when i was in india,i had applied for a masters program in genoa university,italy.they send me an admission letter last week..so,can i do my preenrollment interview here in the italian consulate,saudi arabia or should i get back to india..i hav with me all the original academic documents,hrd and apostilled.

How are you people?l hope l found you well.Can some please help me on this.In short my question is,Is it you or the Italian embassy that informs your university that you have completed your pre-enrollment??And is it that the embassy will just sign your pre-enrollment application forms and give them back to you or it is supposed to send them to the university you applied for?

      I don't think you need to communicate with the university about pre-enrollment. Once you've done it, go ahead and do the VISA process. Good Luck.

    I have got admit at politecnico milano...regarding the state legalisation of documents HRD attestation is being done in my home state kerala without verification (only if the find it required)...is verification required as such or just the attestation?

  21. I am a student currently completing my Master's degree at IIT Bhubaneswar. My permanent residence is in West Bengal. I have been offered a 15-day fellowship at SISSA in Trieste, Italy, from 25th June to 9th July, 2016, in order to appear for some entrance examinations.

    I am aware that I should apply for a short-term Schengen visa of 'study' type. The list of required documents includes educational documents apostilled by MEA. I guess that takes a lot of time and I do not have much time at hand.

    Please let me know if it is possible to skip the apostille process because it is a very short-term trip.

I undergo Italy student visa interview and waiting to file DOV.here they ask me 4 simple question among the 4 question they ask me to show the place​ in the map were I am going for here I make Small mistake instead of showing ***city I showed next to it wrongly but I said in which region it is located and nearest City to it.wether this will create a problem to me fr visa..and I had 2 years of experience in MNC will this consider for visa will this help full for me will I get visa..
