  8.  Register your address with the commune, this declares that you are a resident of the city. This means, you will receive some tax bills such as Garbage tax, but this is important for various reasons. E.g, to get permanent resident, one should have been a resident for 5 years or so will be counted from the date you register as the city's resident.

Before Leaving Italy for Good:

  1. Close all accounts and contracts, e.g., Bank account, Utility contracts such as Energy, Gas and Internet. Usually, one should send 1 or 3 months in advance a registered notification depending on the contractual conditions. Note: when you send the request via post, make sure that you apply with registered post with return receipt option "Raccomandata AR" option. This return receipt can be used as the proof that you have requested for contract termination.
  2. Get Diploma Supplement document (e.g., https://didattica.polito.it/guida/2019/en/diploma_supplement?cds=34&sdu=32) from your University
  3. Get your Degree Certificate validated by the city administration. For the city of Turin, I remember going to the city center and got the validation seal.
  4. Pay all city bills like Garbage tax, etc.
  5. Get a certificate that shows that there are no criminal records or pending cases on you . It is called Certificato dei carichi pendenti (more details: http://www.procura.torino.it/c_cert_carichi_pendenti.aspx)
  6. Go to the city administration office and de-register your address and residential status.
  7. If you have worked and paid social contributions, then you can take a look at this post to claim your funds. https://italystudyvisa.blogspot.com/2019/11/claim-tfr-pension-fund.html
